season of sweet

sweet summer! we attended a rockin’ wedding on friday night, woke up saturday morning to welcome baby Harper Elizabeth into this world and rounded out the remainder of the weekend soaking up sun and swimming with “sisters” (*critch and biological) between Stillwater and the cities. the weekend was bursting with love for best friends, babies, family, and what i think is going to be one hot summer. bring on the sweetness!

*critch: (noun) sisters from another mister + mama; siblings you adore born to parents different from your own

happy havalah

I have been photographing Havah since she was just a few weeks old – by far my best client! Her photos always turn out pretty darn cute because, let’s be honest – she’s adorable. This shoot was a little different than previous times, as Havah is now able to full-on run (even in her gorgeous blue dress)! She is quite a mover!! Even though I broke a sweat running around with her, we definitely snapped some keepers and had a great time. I have never seen a little girl smile so much.

Another favorite that I failed to get a photo of was the DELICIOUS brunch my dear friend’s Rose and John (Havah’s parents) took us to after the shoot. We sat down at Spoonriver and indulged. It was marvelous. If you haven’t been, I’d HIGHLY recommend the food – tastes wonderful and is all organic!

Auntie Ash!

Wow. I totally fell off the blog train – skipping over excuses, I’ll just say that I have thoroughly enjoyed and indulged this holiday season! Undoubtedly, my family received the most amazing surprise on Christmas with the addition of my very first nephew, Finley William. He is my sister and brother-in-laws first baby and is nothing short of perfect. Amy went into labor late morning on Christmas Eve, and Baby Finn arrived just after midnight on his due date – Christmas Day! I was lucky enough to be with Amy and Barret through the entire process which was nothing short of amazing. I have never seen my sister stronger or more brave. She was a literal rockstar and made labor look so simple the thought of making my own baby has crossed my mind a time or two .. no reason to be alarmed. 2012 won’t be the year of the Borntrager baby! I have promised my husband a few years of wedded bliss before we hop on that boat.

I have been lucky enough to spend an extended amount of time with the new little family (definitely worn out my welcome) and even managed to capture at least 100 photos of the little fella … but my sister is beginning her own little blog, and since Finn isn’t actually my baby, I better let her share those! Here’s one of my favorites from Finn’s first 24 hrs just to hold you over! Happy New Year everyone.

a classic is about to be born …

After news broke that I was going to be an Aunt for the VERY FIRST TIME, I got to party planning. Surprisingly, it was not a party for myself, but a get together honoring this little stoker and his Mama. Thanks to my belief that babies should have lots of books upon arrival, I decided to start a library for the little one. This idea themed the entire shower inspiring  invitations (not pictured … sorry!), party food, and presents! Each one of Amy’s friends told me about their favorite childhood book and I proceeded to hunt online and in book stores to get my hands on each one. At the party, friends wrote baby a little note on the inside cover of their favorite story. This boy now has a great start to one killer library – including classics like Where the Wild Things Are and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. The party food also tied into the children’s books. Goodies from books such as Green Eggs + Ham (deviled eggs + food coloring, no ham), The Stinky Cheese Man (cheese + crackers), If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (chocolate chip cookies), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (cupcakes), etc were displayed and eaten. From the amount of leftovers I’m assuming that one or two party-goers are also pregnant (not me!) …

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: To anyone thinking about attempting deviled eggs, don’t use fresh eggs!  Sounds weird, I know. But if your eggs have been in your fridge for at least 5 days, they peel much better than eggs right off the farm. Mine were fresh and a ______ (insert mean word) to peel!

All in all, the shower was a success. We played games (very competitively), opened presents, snacked (obviously), and more than anything came together to support Amy on her journey into motherhood!  We love you, Ame!!
